Birmingham-based convenience store wholesale distributor acquired

Birmingham-based City Wholesale, a regional convenience store distributor with operations in Alabama, Georgia, Mississippi and Tennessee, has been acquired by Louisiana-based Imperial Trading Company.

NOLA.com is reporting that Imperial Trading is now the fourth-largest convenience store distributor in the U.S.

City Wholesale has annual revenues of about $150 million, according to the report.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed, but the company’s 125 employees will reportedly be retained. The acquisition also adds a central Alabama distribution center to Imperial’s network.

City Wholesale, founded in 1926, has been owned for three generations by members of the Dichiara family.

President Paul Dichiara told NOLA.com that the family decided to sell because “there wasn’t a younger generation to pass it on to, plus the timing seemed right.”
