Birmingham available jobs outnumber the unemployed population 5 to 1, why?
Although Federal Reserve Economic Data shows that the Birmingham-Hoover area is reporting its highest employment numbers and labor force since 1991, local experts say there is still work to be done to close the gap between available jobs and unemployed people.
There are over 27,000 job openings within 25 miles of the Birmingham-Hoover area according to employment marketplace website ZipRecruiter.
These openings offer remote, hybrid, full-time and part-time opportunities and most have the option to complete the full application process within the ZipRecruiter portal.
According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, this area reported 2.5% unemployment as of November 2022 which is slightly lower than Alabama’s 2.7%.
Using this percentage and population estimates from the U.S. Census, it can be estimated that this leaves around 5,000 people unemployed.
