Birmingham armed robbery suspect nabbed riding victim’s stolen bicycle

A 35-year-old man is behind bars after police say he robbed a woman at gunpoint of her bicycle in Woodlawn.

Vincent Dixie was taken into custody Thursday when an off-duty Birmingham police sergeant spotted the man on the stolen bike. He is charged with first-degree robbery.

The robbery happened at 8:25 a.m. Tuesday in the 200 block of 59th Street, said Officer Truman Fitzgerald.

East Precinct officers responded to the location and a woman told them a man had robbed her at gunpoint and took her bicycle. She was not injured.

Police crime analysts issued a department-wide lookout bulletin with the description of the suspect and the bicycle, Fitzgerald said.

About 11:35 a.m. Thursday, a sergeant working an off-duty job spotted the suspect and the bike.

Dixie was detained, interviewed and booked into the city jail until detectives obtained warrants against him.

He was then transferred to the Jefferson County at 8:26 p.m. Friday where he remains held without bond.
