Bills’ Damar Hamlin transferred to Buffalo hospital
Buffalo Bills safety Damar Hamlin has been released from University of Cincinnati Medical Center and transferred to a Buffalo hospital to continue his recovery, a week after collapsing on the field and nearly dying during a Monday Night Football game.
Hamlin, 24, suffered cardiac arrest on the field after making a tackle in the first quarter of a game vs. the Cincinnati Bengals on Jan. 2. On-site medical personnel performed CPR and other life-saving procedures on him and rushed him to UCMC.
The hospital released a short statement via the Bills on Monday afternoon, reading as follows:
“We are thrilled and proud to share that Damar Hamlin has been released from the hospital and returned to Buffalo. He is doing well and this is the next stage in his recovery.”
Hamlin was under sedation for several days before regaining consciousness on Thursday. He made remarkable progress over the weekend, publicly thanking fans and well-wishers Saturday and watching the Bills’ regular-season finale vs. the New England Patriots with family members on Sunday.
It is not yet clear if Hamlin will be able to resume his football career at some point. The Bills host the Miami Dolphins in an AFC wildcard playoff game on Sunday.
