Big Titans hit it off: ‘Awesome to get to know a Bama guy’
With their first two picks in the 2024 NFL Draft, the Tennessee Titans acquired 12 feet, 10.5 inches and 708 pounds of football players.
Alabama offensive tackle J.C. Latham, who measured 6-6 and 342 pounds at the NFL Scouting Combine, joined the Titans as the draft’s seventh selection on April 25.
Texas defensive tackle T’Vondre Sweat, at 6-4.5 and 366 pounds, came aboard at No. 38 the next day.
“That’s my dog, man,” Sweat said. “I know he’s a Bama guy. I’m a UT guy. We got the best of them, but that’s my dog. It’s all love, man. He’s a great person – 100 percent great person. We’ve been building a relationship over text when we both got drafted, so it’s awesome to get to know a Bama guy.”
Latham and Sweat are together this weekend with the Titans holding their rookie minicamp. The two were previously on the same field on Sept. 9, when Texas defeated Alabama 34-24 in Tuscaloosa.
“That’s my guy, man,” Latham said on Friday. “I sat down and talked to him last night. We were just chopping it up, and NIL came up. One of the other cats asked us how’s the NIL at Bama and Texas. Over there at Texas, it was great for him, so he talked about that and how they won the game against us. It was friendly fire.”
Latham has signed his first NFL contract, the Titans announced, inking a four-year deal worth a reported $26.045 million. The contract is fully guaranteed and carries a team option for a fifth season.
Tennessee has signed five of its seven 2024 draft picks. Sweat and fourth-round pick Cedric Gray, a linebacker from North Carolina, are the unsigned rookies.
