Big second half helps Briarwood Christian hold off Homewood
Briarwood Christian rolled up 225 yards on the ground in the second half and held off a fourth-quarter Homewood rally on the way to a 20-13 victory at Lions Pride Stadium on Friday night.
The Lions totaled 309 total rushing yards while holding Homewood to 95. Briarwood finished with 342 yards and the Patriots had 285. The home team made a 6-3 first-quarter lead stand through halftime. The Lions outscored Homewood 14-0 in the third period before the Patriots put 10 points on the board in the final quarter.
Both teams are 5-4 on the year and 4-2 in Class 6A, Region 3 play.
Briarwood’s Luke Reynolds ran wild, picking up 214 yards on the ground on 20 carries. He scored a pair of rushing touchdowns. Josh Thompson had 9 rushes for 80 yards and a score.
Homewood quarterback Kaleb Carson completed 18-of-36 passes for 190 yards with a TD and one interception. He also ran 20 times for 50 yards.
Demarcus Walker caught 8 passes for 112 yards and a touchdown for Homewood.
Judson Eanes hit field goals from 35 and 41 yards for the Patriots.
Briarwood travels to Fairhope on Friday to close out the regular season. Homewood will host Jasper.
