Biden: Tuberville’s hold on military nominations ‘bizarre’

President Joe Biden on Monday criticized U.S. Sen. Tommy Tuberville for his hold on military nominations over a Defense Department policy that reimburses service members who travel out of state for abortions and other reproductive care.

Tuberville has delayed the promotions of more than 200 military officers.

“It’s bizarre, I don’t remember it happening before,” Biden said, according to The Hill. “I know I don’t look like I’ve been around, but I’ve been around a long time.”

Biden referred to Tuberville as a “former football coach from Alabama” as he made the remarks at a California fundraiser, the report stated.

“What is actually bizarre is Joe Biden’s obsession with making taxpayers pay for abortion without Congress ever taking a vote,” Tuberville tweeted Monday night. “It’s bizarre and it’s wrong.”

A proposal last week to hold a Senate debate over Pentagon abortion policies as part of the annual defense bill negotiations was seen by some as a prospect for getting Tuberville to lift those holds, The Associated Press reported, but his office said Tuberville was opposed.
