Betting odds posted for Alabama, SMU to make CFP

Nolan Hauser’s 56-yard field goal as time expired to lift No. 18 Clemson over No. 8 SMU 34-31 on Saturday night in the ACC championship has left fans of the Mustangs and the Alabama Crimson Tide anxious.

Dabo Swinney’s Tigers took SMU’s College Football Playoff spot but did SMU do enough in the eyes of the committee to get in the 12-team field anyway?

Plenty around college football have already chimed in. CBS Sports’ Jerry Palm projects Alabama in the CFP and SMU out.

Now, FanDuel has, too.

FanDuel has listed the latest odds of making the CFP:

  • SMU -390
  • Alabama +280

DraftKings also listed odds:

  • SMU -360
  • Alabama +260

Alabama was considered in if SMU beat Clemson in the ACC title game. A convincing Clemson win might have also secured a Tide berth into the CFP because of SMU’s lack of strength of schedule. However, a close Clemson win in which SMU rallied is potentially worse-case scenario for Kalen DeBoer’s team, which didn’t play Saturday.

The College Football Playoff committee will release the final standings and CFP bracket on Sunday at 11 a.m. (noon ET) on ESPN.
