Two former Alabama quarterbacks will attempt to earn important wins in terms of playoff positioning in NFL Week 14. Jalen Hurts and the Eagles will try to stick close to the Lions at the top of the AFC while Tua Tagovailoa hopes to keep Miami mathematically alive in the AFC playoff race.

Both QBs will draw seemingly favorable matchups for team success against teams with 3-9 records. The 11-1 Eagles host the Carolina Panthers, who have been scrappier in recent weeks. Miami, at 5-7, will need to put the latest beating on the sad sack New York Jets, who are coming off yet another ugly loss, to Seattle last week.

The Panthers have a run-funnel defense that gets eaten up by opposing running backs on a regular basis. Philadelphia’s offensive line also has the fourth-best pass blocking grade on Pro Football Focus for Week 14.

Sure, Saquon Barkley might rip off an 80-yard TD run on the Eagles’ first offensive play. But the Panthers are performing more respectably in recent weeks, as Dave Canales is leaning on his younger guys and elevating their confidence.

Carolina is not going to get blown out (take the Panthers to cover the 13-point spread) and will make Hurts respond with some needed passing production. A superb running game will set up Hurts to move the ball smoothly. He averages 235.2 passing yards in home games.
