Bessemer City Jail female inmate found unresponsive in booking holding cell, dies at hospital
An inmate at the Bessemer City Jail died Thursday at a hospital.
The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office identified the woman as Ebony Tyner. She was 35 and lived in Adger.
Chief Deputy Coroner Bill Yates said jail staff found unresponsive inside a booking holding cell at 5 p.m. She was alone in the cell.
She was taken to UAB Medical West hospital where she was pronounced dead at 5:54 p.m.
No additional details have been released.
The death remains under investigation by Bessemer police.
