NFL Week 4 Bengals vs. Titans odds preview

Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow has been dealing with a right calf injury suffered early in training camp and said he had to play in last week’s Monday night win over the LA Rams because his team was staring at 0-3.

Burrow clearly doesn’t look 100 percent. He’s only completing 55 percent of his passes and he only has two touchdowns through three games, but he did connect with his former college teammate Ja’Marr Chase on Monday night. Chase had 12 catches for 141 yards in a 19-16 win.

Tennessee has dropped nine of its last 10 games dating back to last season. The offensive line has been a major problem, allowing 13 sacks through three games and quarterback Ryan Tannehill is averaging just 6.6 yards per attempt. The Titans’ big free-agent acquisition, DeAndre Hopkins, has 14 catches for 153 yards.

And the Titans’ big man on offense, running back Derrick Henry, has yet to get on track. Henry is averaging 3.2 yards a carry and has not been able to find consistent holes.

Kickoff at Nissan Stadium is noon CT. The visiting Bengals are 2.5-point favorites at most sportsbooks.

NFL Week 4 Bengals vs. Titans best bet: Titans under 20.5 points (-155 or better)

Just where are the Titans’ points coming from right now? Tennessee made the unusual decision in the 2022 off-season to trade away wide receiver A.J. Brown to the Eagles. Brown has 20 catches for 239 yards this season for the Eagles which would lead the Titans by a wide margin.

There have even been some whispers about Tannehill’s job security. The Titans drafted former Kentucky star Will Levis as a back-up, but he’s probably not ready. Tennessee has only scored 21 points or more in one of its last seven games.

NFL Week 4 Bengals vs. Titans best bet: Derrick Henry under 69.5 yards (-114 at FanDuel)

Henry took the NFL by storm in 2019 rushing for 1,540 yards and then the next year was NFL Offensive Player of the Year with 2,027 yards. But his yards-per-attempt average has dropped by a full yard since then.

The book on the Titans is stop Henry and you pretty much stop their offense. These two teams played in Week 12 last year and the Bengals held Henry to only 38 yards, one of the lowest outputs of his career.

NFL Week 4 Bengals vs. Titans best bet: Bengals -2.5 (-115 or better)

Cincinnati has won three in a row against the Titans, including a win in the 2021 playoffs. Some teams just have other teams’ numbers.

But Burrow’s health is a concern. The calf injury has clearly taken away some of his mobility, but the more he plays the more he will learn to adapt to it. Still, the Titans have the ability to get after him. Veteran Titans defensive end Denico Autry has 3.5 sacks this season.

But the Bengals have skill players Tennessee can’t match. They beat the Titans last year without running back Joe Mixon, who was in concussion protocol, and without Chase, who was dealing with a hip injury. The Bengals started last year slow too they were 2-2 and then made the AFC Championship Game. Even a banged-up Burrow is probably too much for the Titans.
