Beloved Alabama radio personality killed in Shelby County crash
A popular radio personality was killed in a weekend traffic crash in Calera.
Shelby County Coroner Lina Evans identified the victim as Alejandro “El Potrillo” Castillo Andrade. He was 34 and lived in Montevallo.
Castillo was a well-known local and beloved radio personality in the Spanish-language community Birmingham. He formerly worked at El Jefe Radio.
Catillo, who served as an emcee for local events, founded La Chula 97.5 in Shelby County.
“It’s difficult times that we’re processing with a lot of pain,‘’ the station wrote on its Facebook page.
Castillo left behind a wife and two young daughters.
The two-vehicle wreck happened just after 6 a.m. Saturday in the 3000 block of County Road 12.
Chief David Hyche said officers arrived on the scene to find Castillo dead.
Hyche said an investigation is ongoing by the Calera Police Department Traffic Homicide Unit, the Shelby County Traffic Homicide Task Force and the Shelby County Coroner’s Office.
