Bed, Bath & Beyond bankrupt, closing all stores: Here’s last day to use 20% off coupons

Troubled retailer Bed Bath & Beyond filed for bankruptcy protection and will eventually close all its stores.

The retailer filed for chapter 11 bankruptcy Sunday in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court in Newark New Jersey, listing estimated assets and liabilities in the range of $1 billion and $10 billion. Part of the proceedings include closing all 360 Bed Bath & Beyond locations and 120 Buybuy Baby retail stores. The company has secured $240 million in financing to keep stores operating through the liquidation process.

“Thank you to all of our loyal customers,” a notice on its website said. “We have made the difficult decision to begin winding down our operations. Bed Bath & Beyond and buybuyBaby stores remain open to serve you.”

Liquidation sales are expected to being immediately though an exact date for final closures hasn’t been announced.

The filing comes after a wave of Bed Bath & Beyond closures, including several locations in Alabama. Stores that remained opened often had little inventory and the chain’s stock prices had plummeted as it tried to keep its door open and shelves stocked.

20% off coupon time running off

Time is also running out for a favorite feature for Bed Bath & Beyond shoppers.

The chain has routinely offered coupons offering 20% off one item. With clearance sales looming, customers will have this Sunday, Monday and Tuesday to use up their remaining supply, CNN reported.

Bed Bath & Beyond will stop accepting coupon Wednesday as it shifts to “deep discounts” in going-out-of-business sales. Items purchased before Wednesday can be returned until May 24 but all sales after that will be final, according to CNN. Stores will stop accepting gift cards on May 8.
