Bayou La Batre woman struck, killed by vehicle driven by 85-year-old Irvington man

A Bayou La Batre woman was killed when she was struck by a vehicle Sunday afternoon, the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA) said Monday.

The incident occurred just after 2 p.m. Sunday on Padgett Switch Road near Alabama 188, inside the Bayou La Batre city limits, when 42-year-old Dessiree S. Hovel was struck by a 2006 Lexus RX400H driven by 85-year-old Daniel S. Taylor of Irvington.

According to ALEA, Taylor’s vehicle had left the roadway when it struck Hovel, who was pronounced dead at the scene.

ALEA continues to investigate the incident.
