Top-ranked Class 7A Hoover raced to a big lead and held off No. 6 Bob Jones 62-57 in the Big Orange Classic finale at Hoover on Saturday to finish the event at 3-0. The Patriots had won two straight in the Classic before falling to the hosts.

Hoover jumped to an 18-5 lead after one period and led 31-17 at the half before the Patriots rallied. Bob Jones outscored the Bucs 16-12 in the third period to trail 43-33 headed into the fourth quarter. The Patriots also outpointed Hoover 24-19 in the final quarter, but it wasn’t enough.
