Basketball roundup: Lee-Huntsville star gets 4th double-double

Lee-Huntsville senior Limaya Batimba helped the Generals to their third victory of the season with her fourth straight double-double to start the year.

Batimba, a 5-foot-8 guard who was a first-team Alabama Sports Writers Association All-State performer as a sophomore, scored 24 points and claimed 12 rebounds in a 59-27 win over Decatur on Saturday at Lee.

Lee led 15-8 after one quarter and 30-17 at the half.

Morgan Pride scored 10 points for the Generals (3-1).

Here are some highlights from other games from across the state from over the weekend:

GIRLS

Homewood 80, Fairfield 20

The Patriots improved to 4-0 on the year with the runaway win on the road on Saturday with three players finishing with double figures in scoring.

Mira McCool led Homewood with 20 points and 6 rebounds. Ava Robinson scored 18 and Kayla Warren scored 15 points with 5 assists.

Homewood finished with 17 steals and had 15 assists in the win.

Sparkman 73, Ripley (Miss.) 17

The Senators ran their record to 3-1 with the rout in the Tupelo Hound Dog Classic on Saturday.

Elise McClain led Sparkman with 16 points. Hannah Horton scored 15 and had 5 steals in the win. Khloe Bradley scored 14 with 4 steals and Jurnee Moore scored 10 with 4 steals.

Bob Jones 41, Hoover 35

The three-time defending champions opened the season with a home loss to Bob Jones.

Kaitlyn Gipson scored 13 points to lead Hoover.

Mortimer Jordan 55, Priceville 45

The Blue Devils improved to 2-0 with the home win on Saturday, coming from behind with big third- and fourth-quarter efforts. Mortimer Jordan trailed 26-23 at the half before outscoring the visitors 17-11 in the third and 15-8 in the fourth quarter. The visitors led 16-7 after one quarter.

Keyarra Scottland led Mortimer Jordan with 19 points. Brinley Funderburk scored 15 in the win.

Abby Langlois led Priceville in the Bulldogs’ season-opener with 15 points and 6 rebounds. Gracin Prater scored 9 points, grabbed 5 rebounds and had 5 assists. Lillyan Bloodworth had 6 rebounds and Ashlyn Johnson had 5.

Glenwood School 47, Lakeside 37

Lakeside saw its record evened at 1-1 in the Evangel Christian tipoff tournament on Saturday. Chloe Helms and Sophie Seaborn led Lakeside with 14 and 12 points, respectively. Addy Erikson grabbed 11 rebounds in the loss.

Sand Rock 57, DAR 35

Sand Rock opened the season with the rout at Grant on Friday.

Katelyn St. Clair led the Wildcats with 19 points. She also had 5 rebounds in the win. Zoey Handy dominated the backboards, grabbing 14 rebounds for Sand Rock. She also scored 9 points.

Chloe Stephens had 7 rebounds and 5 steals in the win.

BOYS

Chilton County 64, Prattville 47

The Tigers rallied in the third quarter to open their season with a home win on Friday. Chilton County trailed 35-26 at the half before rolling to a 19-5 third period and closing out with a 19-7 fourth quarter.

Seniors Eli Dale and DJ Caffey led Chilton County with 17 and 15 points, respectively. Sophomore Marshall Thornhill pulled down 10 rebounds.

Prattville, returning one starter from the 2022-23 season, fell to 0-03. Sophomore Evan Chandler was the only Lion in double figures with 18 points.

Baker 58, Biloxi 47

The Hornets improve to 3-0 on the season with the win on Saturday in the St. Martin Joe Barlow/Mike Perkins Invitational in Ocean Springs, Miss.

Desmond Williams led four double-figures scorers for Baker with 17 points. Dashawn Thomas scored 13 while Derrick Florence and Lovalle Nelson had 10 apiece.

Reginal Conner led Biloxi with 13 points.

Baker plays at Williamson on Tuesday at 7 p.m.

Williamson 43, D’Iberville (Miss.) 40

The Lions won their second straight to open the season in Ocean Springs, Miss., in the St. Martin Joe Barlow/Mike Perkins Invitational.

Johnathan Johnson led Williamson with 13 points and 8 rebounds. Corien Hawthorne scored 11 for the Lions.

Hartselle 71, Fairview 46

The Tigers opened the season with the road win on Saturday.

Rylan Smothers led the winners with 20 points – 10 in the second quarter. Ty Odom scored 19, with 8 in the opening period and 9 in the third. Brayden Thomas scored 9.

Landun Smith led Fairview with 12 points. Colt Fletcher scored 11 in the loss.
