Top-ranked Class 7A Huntsville opened the 41st annual Huntsville City Classic played at Huntsville High on Wednesday with a 68-33 rout of Class 6A No. 10 Hazel Green.

Huntsville (17-1) forced 18 turnovers on the afternoon and hit held the Trojans to 34 percent shooting from the floor. Hazel Green made just 1-of-11 shots from behind the 3-point arc while Huntsville hit 7-of-17 (41 percent). The Crimson Panthers shot 51.9 percent from the floor and made 5-of-7 free throws. The Trojans connected on 6-of-8 free shots.

Samford signee Caleb Harrison led the Huntsville with 16 points, 9 rebounds and 5 assists. Brayden Rivers scored 14 in the win and Simon Walker had 13. JD Gossett scored 12 points and had 5 steals for Huntsville.

Terrance Pruitt led Hazel Green with 15 points and 6 rebounds. Jalen Bright added 8 points in the loss.

Huntsville will play Sparkman on Day 2 of the tournament on Thursday while Hazel Green (11-7) will meet Columbia.

James Clemens 49, Mae Jemison 47

Sophomore guard Isaiah Cleaves drained a buzzer-beater to lift James Clemens past Mae Jemison. Cleaves’ bucket came with no time remaining and gave him 7 points on the evening.

Class 7A No. 10 James Clemens led by as many as 10 points in the first quarter while Mae Jemison led by 1 with 11 seconds remaining in the game. James Clemens led 26-23 at the half. The teams played to an 11-all stalemate in the third quarter before the Jaguars outscored James Clemens 13-8 in the fourth period.

The Jets (11-4) got a double-double from Bryce Mason. He scored 24 points, including four 3-pointers, and grabbed 10 rebounds and had 4 assists for James Clemens. Duncan Robertson scored 8 for the winners. Cleaves also contributed 4 assists.

Hezekiah Harris led Mae Jemison (7-8) with 10 points and 11 rebounds. Da’Karion Bryant also scored 10 with 8 rebounds in the loss. Jaquarius Horton also grabbed 8 rebounds for Mae Jemison.

James Clemens will play Madison intracity rival Bob Jones on Thursday. Mae Jemison will play Trotwood-Madison of Trotwood, Ohio, on Thursday.

Centennial (Tenn.) 63, Buckhorn 62

Sophomore Carter Ezell hit a layup with 4 seconds left to lift the Franklin, Tenn., squad past Class 6A No. 1 Buckhorn. The lead changed just four times in the game and it was tied twice. Centennial’s largest lead was 8 points in the third period while Buckhorn led by 7 in the second period.

Both teams hit 51.1 percent of their shots, with the winners connecting on 9-of-18 3-pointers. Buckhorn made 5-of-15 beyond the arc and hit 9-of-14 free throws. Centennial made 6-of-7 free shots.

Buckhorn outscored the winners 41-35 in the paint and got 20 points – to zero for Centennial – off the bench.

Dominic Reed led the Cougars with 22 points and 5 rebounds. Ezell finished with 17 points with 4 boards and Daniel Patton scored 16. Taner Lee had 4 assists in the win.

Caleb Holt poured in 28 points for Buckhorn (13-4) and he grabbed 8 rebounds and had 3 assists. Fred Derrick scored 9 in the loss and had 5 rebounds.

Centennial will play Austin on Thursday while Buckhorn meets McAdory.

Sparkman 64, Columbia 50

The Senators improved to 6-12 with the win. Eli Bannister and Orlandis Beale scored 17 points apiece in the win. Beale also grabbed 11 rebounds and had 3 assists. Amaree Jabbar scored 8 for Sparkman.

Chanze Allen led Columbia (2-14) with 12 points. Ja’colby Eddy scored 10 for the Eagles. Jason Williams claimed 8 rebounds and had 3 assists to lead Columbia.

Sparkman overcame 17 turnovers to earn the win. The Senators shot 39.7 percent from the floor and hit 7-of-25 shots from behind the 3-point arc. Sparkman made 11-of-16 free throws.

Columbia turned the ball over 13 times and made 33 percent of its shots. The Eagles hit 4-of-15 of their 3-point attempts and 8-of-14 free throws.

Grissom 55, Madison Academy 47

The Tigers jumped to a 25-15 halftime lead before Madison Academy cut the margin to 38-36 headed into the fourth period.

Grissom (10-9) shot 52.6 percent from the floor – 2-of-10 on 3-pointers – and overcame 18 turnovers on the way to the win. The Tigers hit 13-of-18 free throws.

Madison Academy dropped to 14-3 on the year with the loss. The Mustangs shot 38 percent from the floor and made 5-of-15 of their 3-point attempts. Madison Academy had 19 turnovers.

Brandon Martin led Grissom with 15 points. Javon Alexander scored 14 and had 5 rebounds in the win. Justin McCall and Landen Williams scored 11 points apiece. TJ Cole also had 5 rebounds for Grissom.

Cam Bell led Madison Academy with 12 points. Kahleel Green scored 10. Jaylen Blackwell led the Mustangs with 7 rebounds.

The Tigers will play St. Pius X of Atlanta on Thursday. Madison Academy will play Florence.

Austin 57, McAdory 53

The Black Bears nipped McAdory by a bucket in both the third and fourth quarters to slip by with the win. Austin led 12-11 after one quarter, but McAdory tied the game at 23 at the half. There were 19 lead changes and the contest was tied 11 times. McAdory’s largest lead was 4 points, as was Austin’s.

Neither team blistered the nets as Austin made 38 percent of its shots – 5-of-16 on 3-pointers – and McAdory connected on 41.5 percent from the floor. The Yellow Jackets hit 3-of-13 from behind the arc. McAdory made 6-of-16 free throws while the Black Bears made 14-of-20.

Jordan Johnson led Class 7A No. 4 Austin (14-3) with 21 points. Harry Malone scored 12 in the win. Isaiah Fuller claimed 10 rebounds for the Bears and Jaxon Potter had 4 assists.

Tristan Gilmore poured in 26 points for McAdory. JaCobe Whitted scored 12 and had 10 rebounds. JaCorey Whitted also had 10 rebounds.

Austin meets Centennial, Tenn., on Thursday. McAdory plays Buckhorn.

Bob Jones 63, Trotwood-Madison (Ohio) 56 (OT)

Kaden Rickard scored 27 points – hitting 11-of-13 free throws – to help the Patriots past Trotwood-Madison of Trotwood, Ohio, in overtime.

Bob Jones led 15-9 after one quarter, but Trotwood tied the game at 24 headed into halftime. The Patriots led 34-32 headed into the fourth quarter and the teams were tied at 46 after regulation.

The game was tied 10 times and the lead changed a dozen times.

Bob Jones overcome 20 turnovers and gave up 27 second-chance points in the win. The Patriots made 45 percent of their shots and were 4-of-11 on 3-pointers. Bob Jones hit 11-of-21 free throws. Trotwood-Madison shot just 28 percent from the floor and 5-of-28 (18 percent) from behind the arc. The Rams made 5-of-28 of their 3-point attempts.

Rickard had 5 rebounds and 3 assists for Bob Jones. Mitchel Robinson scored 17 and had 6 rebounds and a pair of assists for the Patriots. Eric Marrow claimed 8 rebounds in the win.

Bob Jones plays Madison rival James Clemens on Thursday while Trotwood-Madison will meet Mae Jemison.

St. Pius X Catholic 60, Florence 53

The Golden Lions from Atlanta shot a blistering 56 percent from the floor, scoring 49 points in the paint, on the way to the win over Florence. St. Piux also made 13-of-17 free throws and overcame 22 turnovers in the win.

Florence (10-5) turned the ball over 14 times, allowing 19 points, and shot just 32.8 percent from the floor. The Falcons hit 6-of-23 of their 3-point attempts and scored 31 points in the paint.

Michael Dee led St. Pius with 13 points and 8 rebounds. Harris Reynolds also scored 13 in the win. D’Marley Elliott added 9 for the Lions (8-3).

Bryant James led Florence with 16 points. Jamarrion Reeder added 14 for the Falcons. Kedrick Triplett claimed 8 rebounds in the loss.

Randolph 66, North Jackson 36

The host team jumped to a 20-7 first-quarter lead, went up 36-18 at the half and carried a 59-26 advantage over North Jackson into the fourth period.

Randolph’s Will Waites tossed in 20 points – including five 3-pointers – to lead three players in double figures on the day. Grant Enfinger scored 12 and Hunter Wiggins added 10 in the win.

Dimitri Patides led North Jackson with 7 points.

Randolph improved to 8-6 on the season.

BIRMINGHAM

ALPHA INVITATIONAL

Winter Haven (Fla.) 74, Hoover 69

The second-ranked Class 7A Bucs fell in the finals of the tournament in Kingsport, Tenn., on Friday.

Hoover led 19-18 after one period and 32-30 at the half before the Blue Devils jumped in front 58-57 headed into the final quarter.

Senior Isaac Celiscar poured in 30 points in 32 minutes on the floor and claimed 11 rebounds – 6 on the offensive boards – for 8-1 Winter Haven. Jamie Phillips scored 13 points and grabbed 6 rebounds with 5 assists in the win.

Salim London led Hoover (14-2) with 18 points and 10 rebounds. Jarett Fairley scored 17 points and DeWayne Brown finished with a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds. Elijah Thomas added 12 points.

On Thursday, Hoover beat Jonesboro, Ga., 59-38 in the tourney semifinals. Seneca Robinson led the Bucs with 12 points, 5 assists and 3 steals. Brown also had a double-double with 13 points and 13 rebounds. Fairley added 12 points.

Hoover beat Gate City, Va., 88-37 in the opening round of the event.

The Bucs open the Big Orange Classic at home on Thursday against Oxford, Miss.

STATEWIDE

SUPREME CLASSIC

Prattville Christian 48, Southside-Gadsden 38

Prattville Christian won the battle of the Panthers in the opening round of the Supreme Classic in Guntersville on Wednesday.

Cade Segars led PCA with 27 points and 8 rebounds. PJ Evans had 6 rebounds and 5 assists and Justin Chapman scored 8 in the win.

PCA (8-8) will play Decatur on Thursday.

DOWNTOWN HOOPS CLASSIC

Eufaula 65, Georgiana 63

The Class 5A Tigers edged Class 1A No. 3 Georgiana in the Downtown Hoops Classic in Dothan on Tuesday.

Nasir Cheatham led Georgiana (10-2) with 20 points. He also had 8 rebounds and 3 steals. Kaveon Miles finished with a double-double, scoring 18 points and claiming 12 rebounds. Miles also had 5 steals.

BULLDOG INVITATIONAL TOURNAMENT

Valiant Cross Academy 63, Banks Academy 55

The Warriors improved to 12-2 on the season with the championship win over AISA No. 10 Banks Academy on Friday, their second straight win over a top 10 team in the tournament at Restoration Academy in Fairfield.

Letwan Hall Jr. scored 27 points and grabbed 11 rebounds in the win. Deshawn Hall also had a double-double with 19 points and 14 rebounds to go with 6 blocked shots.

On Thursday, the Montgomery school beat No. 9 and previously undefeated Evangel Christian 61-54. Hall led the Warriors with 26 points and 12 rebounds. Hall had 19 points and 11 rebounds.

Valiant Cross will host Glenwood on Jan. 4.

BALLN PREP HOLIDAY INVITATIONAL

Hoover 49, Sumter County (Ga.) 19

The Bucs rolled over Americus Sumter County South in the opening round of the tournament at Hazel Green High School on Wednesday.

Hoover raced to a 24-7 first-quarter lead and blanked the

Khloe Ford scored 14 points for Hoover, ranked No. 5 in Class 7A. Kaitlyn Gipson scored 11 in the win.

Hoover plays host Hazel Green at 10 a.m. on Thursday.

Also on Wednesday, Class 6A No. 2 Hillcrest-Tuscaloosa beat Lee-Huntsville 39-32.

RAIDER HOLIDAY CLASSIC

North Jackson 71, Sylvania 58

The Chiefs rallied from a 20-8 first-quarter deficit to lead 33-32 at the half and pulled away with a 24-17 third quarter to top Sylvania in the opening round of the Raider Holiday Classic at Randolph School on Wednesday.

Lexi Gary led the winners with 20 points. Calena Coffey pitched in 18 points for the Chiefs. Sheyann Brown scored 13 and Alley Stubblefield added 11 for North Jackson.

Taylor Martin poured in 18 points for Sylvania, hitting four 3-pointers for the Rams. Jaidyn Ashley scored 13 for Sylvania.

FALCON CHRISTMAS CLASSIC

St. James 70, Madison Academy 38

Class 3A No. 5 St. James rolled past Madison Academy in the opening round of the Falcon Christmas Classic at St. John Paul II Catholic in Huntsville on Wednesday. The win pushes the Trojans’ record to 14-3.

Natalie Barton just missed a double-double for the winners, scoring 20 points and claiming 9 rebounds. She also had 6 assists. Ava Card scored 20 points and blocked 4 shots. Kaitlin Mitchell scored 10 points for St. James.

The Trojans will meet Susan Moore on Thursday.

BRACY INVITATIONAL

Wilson 45, Danville 41

The Warriors won their opener in the Bracy Invitational at Deshler High on Wednesday.

Danville was led by Adily Alberti, who scored 11 points, grabbed 7 rebounds and had 3 steals. Madalyn McCreless scored 9 points in the loss.

UNITED BANK INVITATIONAL

Norcross (Ga.) 50, Sparkman 43

The Senators dropped to 11-5 on the season with a loss in the tournament at Myrtle Beach, S.C., on Friday.

Sparkman’s Jamya Griffin had 15 points and 11 rebounds in the loss and was named to the all-tournament team. Abethany James scored 11 for the Senators.

Justice Fitzgerald led Norcross with 22 points.

On Thursday, Sparkman topped Greenville, S.C., 77-42 with Griffin tossing in 18 points. James had 14 in the win.

Kayla Gatson led Greenville with 15 points.

Class 7A No. 2 Sparkman will play 6A No. 2 Hillcrest-Tuscaloosa in the BallN Prep National Showcase at Hazel Green on Thursday.

BIRMINGHAM

BIG ORANGE CLASSIC

Hoover 67, Central-Phenix City 48

The Bucs closed out its Big Orange Classic with a 2-1 record, beating Central-Phenix City on Saturday.

Khloe Ford led Hoover with 18 points. Ariana Peagler scored 15 points for the Bucs and Aaliyah Blanchard added 10.

Earlier on Saturday, Link Academy of Branson, Mo., beat the Bucs 52-40. The Lions raced to a 17-6 first-quarter lead and carried 26-15 lead into halftime. The Bucs trailed 36-34 after three quarters, but Link outscored Hoover by 10 in the final quarter.

Peagler led Hoover with 12 points.

STATEWIDE

SUPREME CLASSIC

Prattville Christian 55, Arab 42

Class 3A No. 1 Prattville Christian topped Class 5A No. 3 Arab on Wednesday in the opening round of the Supreme Classic in Guntersville.

Kayden Carr poured in 26 points and had 5 assists and 4 rebounds for the Panthers. Avery Rogers scored 17 points, grabbed 6 rebounds and had 4 steals. Jenna McClendon had a double-double with 16 points and 13 rebounds in the win. Ally Blankinchip had 5 assists for 12-3 Prattville Christian.

The Panthers meet Mortimer Jordan on Thursday.
