Basketball roundup: Hot-shooting Baker whips Williamson
Baker blistered the nets for 13 3-point buckets on the way to a 65-57 win over Williamson on the road on Tuesday. The Hornets improved to 4-0 on the season while handing Williamson its first loss in three games.
The visitors trailed 32-30 at the half after a 17-17 first quarter and pulled ahead 52-46 headed into the final period.
Baker had four players finish in double figures, led by Desmond Williams with 16 points. Dashawn Thomas, Ryan Majors and Derrick Florence had 10 points apiece in the win.
Jonathan Johnson registered a double-double for Williamson, scoring 19 points and grabbing 12 rebounds. Corien Coleman had 16 points, 4 assists and 3 rebounds for the Lions. Silas Evans, a 6-foot-8, 250-pound junior, scored 14 points, claimed 8 rebounds and had 3 blocks.
Baker will play Grissom on Monday in the N2 Hoops Classic at Bob Jones in Madison. Williamson opens the Robertsdale Pre-Thanksgiving Tournament against Faith Academy on Friday at 3:30 p.m.

McGill-Toolen 59, Davidson 41
The Yellow Jackets raced to a 15-3 first-quarter lead and were up 34-18 at the half. Jack Murphy scored 14 of his game-high 19 points before intermission.
McGill-Toolen (2-1) outscored the visitors 15-10 in the third period. Ten Yellow Jackets scored in the win. Owen Norwood had 7 points for McGill.
Zion Broadnax led Davidson with 18 points.
Robertsdale 64, Elberta 36
The Golden Bears held Elberta to 5 points in both the third and fourth quarters to pull away from a 30-25 halftime edge to earn the road victory on Tuesday.
Trevor Pugh had a double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds for Robertsdale (2-1). Gabe Stevens added 13 in the win.
Shane Harrison led Elberta with 10 points.
Robertsdale hosts its 11th annual Pre-Thanksgiving Tournament this weekend, meeting Alma Bryant on Friday at 6:30 p.m.
Theodore 57, Davidson 51
The Bobcats got 23 points from Houston Cunningham in the home win on Thursday. Theodore improved to 2-1 on the season and will play Saturday night in the Spartan Turkey Jam at Mountain Brook.
DJ Butler led Davidson with 15 points.
Vigor 82, UMS-Wright 64
The Wolves handed UMS-Wright its second loss of the week with the win at home on Wednesday.
Sims Druhan led UMS-Wright with 20 points. DJ Dials scored 18 and Jack Church had 12.
On Monday, D’Iberville (Miss.) beat the Bulldogs 51-41. Druhan scored 14 points and Jake Pilger had 10.
BIRMINGHAM
Mountain Brook 49, Madison Academy 37
Two Spartans led the way with double-figures scoring, including Jack Bakken with a double-double, as Mountain Brook earned a home win on Monday. Bakken, a sophomore forward, scored 13 points and claimed 10 rebounds.
John Webb, a 6-foot-2 junior, scored 10 points and had 4 rebounds. John Carwie scored 8 points and had 3 steals.
On Tuesday, the Spartans beat Thompson 38-32. Carwie led Mountain Brook with 13 points. He also grabbed 6 rebounds. Henry Hufham had 10 points and 5 rebounds.
Hoover 62, Huffman 38
The Bucs improved to 3-0 with the win at Huffman in their first road game of the season on Thursday.
Salim London led Hoover with 21 points and 6 rebounds. Jarett Fairley scored 19 points and had 4 rebounds with 3 assists. DeWayne Brown had 12 points, 9 rebounds and 4 blocks.
Hoover plays on Wednesday in the Kevin Brown Memorial Tournament of Champions in Washington, Ill.
On Monday, Hoover used a big second quarter to knock off McAdory 74-51. Trailing 16-14 after one period at Hoover, the Bucs outscored the Yellow Jackets 27-9 to coast into halftime at 41-25.
Fairley led Hoover with 17 points. He also had 3 assists. Brown scored 15 points, with 5 rebounds and 3 blocks. London scored 14 points with 6 rebounds, 5 steals and 4 assists. Elijah Thomas had 12 points in the win.
Mortimer Jordan 79, Hartselle 75 (2OT)
The Blue Devils edged visiting Hartselle on Tuesday in double overtime, outscoring the Tigers 11-7 in the final extra period. Hartselle led 18-16 after one quarter, trailed 31-28 at the half, led 45-42 after three and the teams were tied at 57 at the end of regulation. Both squads scored 11 in the first OT.
Logan Myrick and Tanner Chandler led Mortimer Jordan with 27 points apiece. Collin Hagen scored 12 – 10 in the extra periods.
Ty Odom led Hartselle with 28 points with five 3-pointers. Dawson Seal scored 17 for the Tigers. Rylan Smothers added 13 and Kohl Key scored 12, all on 3-point buckets.
Vestavia Hills 68, Hartselle 58
The Rebels earned the road win at Hartselle on Thursday, breaking open a close game with a 25-16 edge in the fourth quarter. Vestavia Hills led 19-15 after one period, 27-24 at the half and 43-42 after three.
Adam Barksdale poured in 29 points – hitting 12 of 14 free throws – for the Rebels. For the game, Vestavia connected on 24-of-30 free throws. Ben Evans scored 19, with 16 coming in the second half.
Ty Odom led Hartselle with 24 points, hitting six 3-pointers. Rylan Smothers added 15, 11 in the second half. He hit 7-of-12 free throws.
Midfield 49, Montevallo 41
The Patriots got 14 points and 5 rebounds from Brandon Riddle in the win.
Jaden Sellers scored 8 points and had 4 rebounds for Midfield. DuJuan McKinney also had 8 points for the Pats.
HUNTSVILLE/TENNESSEE VALLEY
Decatur Heritage 62, Shoals Christian 53
The Eagles earned the road win in Florence on Tuesday, outscoring the Flames 23-11 in the fourth quarter to rally for the victory. Decatur Heritage trailed 10-9 after one quarter, 30-21 at the half and 42-39 headed into the final period.
Nash Thomas led the winners with 22 points and 12 rebounds. Hayden Page and Brady Wilson scored 12 points apiece. Wilson had 8 rebounds, 3 assists, 3 steals and 2 blocks while Page had 5 rebounds and 3 assists.
Danny King scored 23 points to lead Shoals Christian with 23 points. Sam Storie added 15 points.
Florence 83, Priceville 45
The Falcons rolled in Dylan Burleson’s debut as head coach on Tuesday. Burleson comes to Florence from Haleyville, replacing the retired Anthony Reid.
Alleick Shipley led four Falcons in double figures with 24 points. Bryant James scored 13 with Jayshod Pearson and DJ Beckwith added 10 points each.
Florence hit 13 3-pointers in the rout.
Sparkman 65, Oakwood Academy 50
Caleb Lightford led the Senators with 12 points as Sparkman earned its first win of the season after two straight losses.
Orlandis Beale added 10 points in the win while Jojo Moore and Makhi Hammond had 9 points apiece.
Jordan Williams led Oakwood with 16 points. Will Lewis had 11.
Huntsville 80, DAR 43
The Crimson Panthers rolled to a 16-0 start on Monday at Grant and coasted past DAR, leading 40-20 at the half.
Brayden Rivers led Huntsville (3-0) with 18 points, hitting five 3-pointers. Caleb Harrison added 14 points, 10 rebounds and 6 assists. Josh Bowman recorded another double-double off the bench with 13 points and 10 rebounds. Simon Walker, JD Gossett, and Merik McCartney all scored 10 points for the Panthers.
Huntsville held DAR to 22 percent shooting from the floor (12-of-54) and forced 23 turnovers. The Panthers made 50 percent of their shots (28-of-56) and hit 43 percent of their shots behind the 3-point arc. Huntsville also had 20 assists in the win.

Montgomery Academy 68, Tallassee 63
The Eagles opened the season with the road win, outscoring Tallassee 36-29 in the second half.
Skyler Stovall led Montgomery Academy with 24 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists. Seth Edwards scored 18 points with 9 rebounds and 5 assists. DJ Vinson notched a double-double with 13 points and 15 rebounds. He also had 3 blocked shots. Brewer Welch scored 13 in th win with 7 rebounds and 5 assists. Jarrett Friendly grabbed 9 rebounds.
Prattville Christian 68, Autaugaville 40
Collier Connell pitched in a career-high 38 points and grabbed 10 rebounds to lead the Panthers to a season-opening win on the road on Tuesday. Connell hit 11 3-pointers, second all-time in Prattville Christian history behind Adam Roberson’s 12.
Cade Segars scored 20 points and had 6 rebounds in the win. PJ Evans had 7 assists and 6 rebounds for the Panthers.
JAG 63, Prattville 56
Johnson Abernathy Graetz – formerly Robert E. Lee of Montgomery – edged Prattville on Tuesday.
Junior Ty Bryant led Prattville with 19 points. Xavier Dunn, Evan Chandler and Isaiah Bradley scored 9 points apiece in the loss.
Central-Tuscaloosa 61, Cornerstone 48
Javion Taylor poured in 36 points and grabbed 8 rebounds as the Falcons won on the road in Birmingham on Tuesday.
King Larkin scored 14 points and had 8 rebounds in the win.
Robert Martin led Cornerstone with 13 points. Kornelius Lewis and De’Marion Burks had 10 points each for the Eagles in the loss.
GIRLS
BIRMINGHAM
Homewood 68, Northridge 55
The Patriots improved to 7-1 on the season by pulling away from a 1-point halftime advantage for the win at home.
Mira McCool had a double-double for Homewood, scoring 14 points and collecting 10 rebounds. Ava Robinson scored 13 points and Kayla Warren scored 11 with 5 steals.
On Tuesday, the Patriots won 47-26 at Briarwood Christian. Warren scored 18 points and had 4 rebounds to go with 2 steals and 2 blocks. Sophomore Ellis McCool had 8 points, 7 rebounds and 5 steals.
On Monday, the Patriots earned a 47-41 road win at Midfield. Warren led Homewood with 20 points. She finished with 6 rebounds and 5 steals. Sophomore Savannah McDonald contributed 9 points. Sophomore Lane Crowe scored 7 points and had 7 rebounds.
Hoover 54, Huffman 42
The Bucs outscored the home team 15-11 in the first quarter and 16-10 in the final period to claim the win. The teams stalemated in the second and third quarters, scoring 10 points each in the second and 11 each in the third.
Khloe Ford led Hoover with 16 points and 12 rebounds. Kaitlyn Gipson and Ariana Peagler scored 10 points each in the win.
MOBILE/COASTAL ALABAMA
UMS-Wright 66, Vigor 49
The Bulldogs improved to 5-1 with the road win on Wednesday. For the third straight game, junior Ansleigh Ishee led UMS-Wright in scoring with 16 points. She also had 5 rebounds.
Senior Noel Freeman scored 14 points and grabbed 8 rebounds. Amelia Meador and Ellie Mostellar had 10 points each. Mostellar had 6 steals.
Vigor’s JaMonica Chambers led all scorers with 23 points.
UMS-Wright travels on Saturday to meet North Sand Mountain at 1 p.m. in the Gulf Shores Battle at the Beach tournament.
On Monday, UMS-Wright came from behind to nip D’Iberville (Miss.) 41-39. Freeman scored on a put-back at the buzzer for the game-winner. The Bulldogs tied the game with 25 seconds left before Meador got a steal with 4 seconds left. Her shot didn’t fall, but Freeman was there to decide the game.
UMS-Wright, which missed all nine of its 3-point shots on the night, trailed by 6 with 2:25 left in the game.
Ishee led all scorers with 18 points, hitting 9-of-12 shots from the floor. Freeman finished with 16 points and 10 rebounds. Meador had 7 assists and 8 steals.
McGill-Toolen 45, Davidson 37
The Yellow Jackets improved to 4-1 on the year as Reagan Burroughs notched a double-double with 16 points and 12 rebounds.
Makayla Johnson scored 10 points in the win. Albanie Dixon grabbed 10 rebounds and scored 7 points for McGill-Toolen.
The Yellow Jackets play St. Martin on Friday at 7 p.m. in the Robertsdale Pre-Thanksgiving Tournament.
Cottage Hill 31, Bayside Academy 19
The Warriors broke open a close game with a 9-2 run in the third quarter of their home opener.
Ashlyn Newton and Penny Luna scored 10 points each as Cottage Hill improved to 2-1 on the year.
Gulf Shores 41, Faith Academy 34
The Dolphins returned to action after a 12-day break to earn the win at Faith. Junior Keyona Royal led Gulf Shores (2-1) with a double-double, scoring 10 points with 12 rebounds.
Senior guard Maya Griffin scored 10 in the win.
Nancy McKenzie scored 8 points for Faith.
Gulf Shores will play Oneonta in the opening round of the Battle of the Beach Thanksgiving Tournament at home on Saturday.
HUNTSVILLE/TENNESSEE VALLEY
Arab 57, Priceville 41
Bryleigh Bodine led three Knights in double figures, scoring 16 points as Arab picked up the road win. Laney Kelly scored 14 points and Maggie Chastain added 11.
Abby Langlos led Priceville (1-2) with 14 points. She also had 6 rebounds. Lillyan Bloodworth scored 13 and had 8 rebounds and 3 assists.
Priceville 50, Florence 39 (OT)
The Bulldogs outscored Florence 11-0 in overtime to pick up the road win on Tuesday to even their record at 1-1.
Abby Langlois registered a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds and had 5 blocks for Priceville. Ashlyn Johnson scored 11 points and had 6 rebounds. Carly Nelson scored 10 points with 6 rebounds.
Trinity McCroskey led Florence with 10 points.
East Lawrence 61, Danville 39
East Lawrence picked up the home win on Thursday.
Adily Alberti led Danville with 16 points. She also had 6 rebounds and 5 steals. Maddie Sherrill had 10 rebounds.
On Tuesday, Brewer beat the Hawks 57-44. Danville’s Maddie Sherrill scored 14 points in the loss. She also had 4 rebounds and 3 assists. Alberti scored 10 points and claimed 6 rebounds.
Sand Rock 65, Hokes Bluff 18
The Wildcats improved to 2-0 with the win in their home opener on Tuesday.
Katelyn St.Clair scored 21 points for Sand Rock to go with 7 rebounds and 5 assists. Zoey Handy scored 16 points, 7 rebounds and 5 steals. Chloe Stephens scored 10 points and Kennedy Henderson scored 9 points with 9 rebounds and 4 assists.
Sand Rock travels to Glencoe on Friday.

Prattville Christian 63, Autaugaville 16
The defending Class 4A state champions – and three-time defending champs after 3A titles in 2022 and 2021 – opened the season with the rout on the road.
Avery Rogers led three players in double-figures scoring with 16 points. She also had 5 rebounds and 4 assists. Jenna McClendon also scored 16 in the win. LB NeSmith scored 12 points and had 4 steals for the Panthers. Leah Cate Wilson had 8 rebounds while Ally Blankinchip had 7 steals and 5 rebounds.
Georgiana 54, Pike County 40
The Panthers picked up a win in their season-opener in the Luverne Thanksgiving Tournament. Lillie Boggan tossed in 21 points, grabbed 16 rebounds and had 8 assists and 8 steals.
Grace Bradley scored 11 points in the win. Nyeashia Thomas hauled in 26 rebounds to go with her 10 points for Georgiana.
The Panthers play Enterprise in the tournament on Saturday.
Brantley 43, Calhoun 33
Freshmen guards Alex Grimes and Coco Stamps led the Bulldogs to a win in the Luverne Thanksgiving Tournament. Grimes scored 16 points and grabbed 10 rebounds while Stamps scored 10 points and had 6 steals.
Myia Mount also had a double-double in the season-opening win for Brantley, scoring 12 points and claiming 13 rebounds. She also had 4 steals.
The Bulldogs’ next tournament game is Saturday at 10:15 a.m. vs. Pike County.
Carroll-Ozark 61, Daleville 28
The Eagles opened the season with the runaway win, led by Zymirria Glanton’s 15 points. Taliyah Carter scored 13 points for Carroll.
Tyazia Newman scored 9 points and claimed 7 rebounds for the winners.
Calvary Christian 52, Lakeside 39
Chloe Helms scored 21 points, eclipsing 1,000 points in her career for the Chiefs, in the loss on Tuesday.
Addie Erikson hauled down 18 rebounds for Lakeside to go with 7 points. Sophie Seaborn had 5 steals and 4 rebounds for the Chiefs (1-2).
