Four-time defending Class 7A girls state champion Hoover handed 2023-24 Mississippi state champ Tupelo its first loss of the season on Saturday, 66-53 in the 10th annual Tangle on the Trail High School Basketball Shootout in Pontotoc, Miss.

Hoover, ranked No. 1 by the Alabama Sports Writers Association, rallied from a 32-22 halftime deficit to beat the Golden Wave. The Bucs, who started slowly on defense to trail 24-11 after one quarter, was behind 44-43 headed into the fourth quarter. Hoover clamped down to pull away with the 23-9 final period.
