Basketball Hall of Famer from Alabama auctioning championship ring, other memorabilia
Sports collectors who want to own a piece of Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame member Artis Gilmore’s career have until 8 p.m. CDT Sunday to get in on the bidding.
Grey Flannel Auctions’ current Summer Games Auction includes 34 items from Gilmore, one of the three members of the Basketball Hall of Fame with Alabama roots.
A prep star at Carver High School in Dothan, Gilmore is joined by Charles Barkley from Leeds High School and Auburn University and Ben Wallace from Central High School in Hayneville as Alabama’s inductees.

The Gilmore items include the Hall of Fame ring presented to him as a member of the Class of 2011 and his ABA championship ring as a member of the 1975 Kentucky Colonels.

After graduating from Carver, Gilmore attended Gardner-Webb Junior College in Boiling Springs, North Carolina, for two years before finishing his college career at Jacksonville University. Gilmore paced the Dolphins to the championship game of the 1970 NCAA tournament, where Jacksonville fell to UCLA 80-69 after scoring at least 104 points in each of its first three tourney games.
Gilmore started his pro career in the ABA with the Kentucky Colonels and was the league’s Rookie of the Year and MVP for the 1971-72 season.
A five-time All-Star in the ABA, Gilmore was a six-time All-Star in the NBA.
Gilmore averaged 18.8 points, 12.3 rebounds, 2.3 assists and 2.4 blocks in 1,329 ABA and NBA regular-season games and 17.7 points, 12.7 rebounds, 2.2 assists and 2.3 blocks in 100 ABA and NBA playoff games.
