Barbie chocolate bars: Where you âKenâ get them in Alabama
Back in the day, you could get inch-long, plastic Nestle Crunch bars for Barbie dolls. More recently, DIY makers have been selling miniature candy bar replicas online for Barbies. Today, specialty candy chain IT’S SUGAR is rolling out actual, human-sized chocolate bars featuring Barbie-themed packaging.
The three-ounce milk chocolate bars come with three different Barbie-themed wrappers. One depicts Ken, Barbie’s plastic suitor, who was depicted by actor Ryan Gosling in the 2023 smash-hit/cultural phenomenon “Barbie” movie starring Margot Robbie as the titular doll.
Another wrapper is emblazoned with “Stay Weird” and that iconic Barbie logo, the former a nod to actor Kate McKinnon’s far-out character in the movie. A third wrapper is covered in the movie’s oft-uttered salutation, “Hi Barbie!”

Made in the U.S., less than 8,000 of these Barbie-wrapper-ed chocolate bars will be available across the IT’SUGAR’s 100-plus stores in North America. The retailer is headquartered in Fort Lauderdale, Florida-headquartered.
“These three bars are just our initial launch,” says Justin Clingler, IT’SUGAR’s assistant vice president of creative and marketing. Without saying too much, keep your eyes open over the next few months for maybe some other flavors.”
An image of Barbie herself is notably absent from IT’SUGAR’s first batch of Barbie bars. “Not on this launch … stay tuned,” Clingler says.
Yeah, the bars are rectangular and not Ken-shaped or Barbie-logo shaped, which would be way more fun. But to be fair, those “Reggie!” bars from the late ‘70s weren’t molded to resemble New York Yankees slugger Reggie Jackson, they just had his photo on the wrapper.
Prior to their Barbie bars, IT’SUGAR film/TV themed candies included “Wonka,” “Stranger Things” and “Saturday Night Live” offerings. “We do very well with our special releases,” company rep Clingler says.
Here in Alabama, IT’SUGAR’s lone shop is at Huntsville’s Bridge Street Towne Center, address 340 The Bridge Street. They’re open 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. today and will have 90 of the Barbie chocolate bars total available, 30 of each wrapper. For additional hours, information and other store locations, visit itsugar.com.
IT’SUGAR’s Barbie chocolate bars cost four bucks each. Compared to the “Barbie” movie’s production budget of more than $145 million, that sounds like a deal.
The movie adaptation of the Ruth Handle-created, Mattel-manufactured, 1959-introduced doll did a box office of more than $1.4 billion worldwide, making it last year’s biggest grossing film, according to Variety.
Even at that level of consumption, Barbie fans yet satiated have plenty of food related tie-ins to sink their pink teeth into. In addition to IT’SUGAR’s chocolate bars, other recent Barbie-themed food, as detailed by Bon Appetit, products include frozen desserts, lemonade, and even “Barbie Pennette Rigate” pasta.
