Baltimore Ravens release former Alabama running back

Kenyan Drake’s second stint with the Baltimore Ravens ended on Tuesday when the NFL team released the running back from its practice squad.

The Ravens signed Drake for their practice squad on Sept. 20. He had been released by the Indianapolis Colts at the end of the preseason.

Drake was elevated to the active roster for two of the four games while he was with the team, but he had only one carry for zero yards and two receptions for 31 yards while playing 12 offensive snaps.

Drake joined Baltimore after Ravens running back J.K. Dobbins sustained a season-ending injury in the opening game on Sept. 10. Baltimore elevated Gus Edwards into the starting spot at running back and has used Justice Hill and Melvin Gordon as backups.

Drake entered the NFL from Alabama’s 2015 CFP national-championship team as a third-round draft selection of the Miami Dolphins in 2016. In his previous seven NFL seasons, Drake had 3,866 yards and 33 touchdowns on 867 carries and caught 216 passes for 1,639 yards and eight touchdowns in 101 regular-season games. Drake also returned 41 kickoffs for one touchdown and a 23.5-yard average.
