Baltimore Ravens’ Derrick Henry breaks NFL record on his birthday
On 31st birthday, Baltimore Ravens running back Derrick Henry set an NFL record in a 35-10 victory over the Cleveland Browns on Saturday.
In the Ravens’ regular-season finale, Henry ran for 138 yards and two touchdowns on 20 carries. That boosted the former Alabama All-American’s rushing yardage for the 2024 season to 1,921, the most in a season for an NFL player 30 years old or older.
The record had been held by Tiki Barber, who ran for 1,860 yards and nine touchdowns on 357 carries for the New York Giants as a 30-year-old in 2005.
Henry closed the 2024 season at 325 carries for 1,921 yards and 16 touchdowns.
Henry’s 2024 rushing total is the 11th in NFL history of more than 1,900 yards. He is the only player with two of those seasons. Henry ran for 2,027 yards for the Tennessee Titans in 2020.
Henry scored twice in the fourth quarter for the Ravens, who clinched the AFC North title, the No. 3 seed in the AFC playoffs and a home game in the first round of the postseason with the victory.
Henry scored on a 2-yard run with 6:44 to play and on a 43-yard run with 3:04 to play. He boosted his career total to 106 rushing touchdowns, tied with Jim Brown for the sixth-most in NFL history.
Henry also had two receptions for 23 yards on Saturday to finish the season with 2,114 yards from scrimmage.
