Baltimore Ravens add former Auburn defensive lineman

The Baltimore Ravens added a veteran defensive lineman on Wednesday, when the NFL team announced it had signed Angelo Blackson.

The former Auburn standout had been an unrestricted free agent since March 15, when his two-year contract with the Chicago Bears ended.

The Ravens had two defensive linemen play at least half of their defensive snaps last season, and one of those, Calais Campbell, a six-time Pro Bowler, is no longer with Baltimore.

Blackson played 55 percent of the Bears’ defensive snaps in 2021 and 41 percent in 2022. In his two seasons with Chicago, Blackson appeared in 32 games with 12 starts. He recorded 65 tackles, 2.5 sacks, four tackles for loss and 10 quarterback hits.

After four seasons at Auburn, Blackson entered the NFL as a fourth-round selection of the Tennessee Titans in the 2015 draft. After two seasons with the Titans, Blackson was on the New England Patriots’ practice squad when the Houston Texans signed him for the final nine games of the 2017 season.

Released by the Texans at the end of training camp even though he’d started 15 regular-season games and two playoff contests in 2019, Blackson signed with the Arizona Cardinals five days before the 2020 season kicked off. He still played in every Arizona game and made nine starts.

Blackson signed a two-year, $5.5 million contract with Chicago in 2021 as a free agent. Terms of his contract with the Ravens have not been released.
