Baldwin County sheriff’s deputy reportedly shoots, kills knife-wielding suspect

A Baldwin County sheriff’s deputy fatally shot a knife-wielding suspect that charged at him Thursday morning.

According to the Baldwin County Major Crimes Unit, a Baldwin County sherrif’s deputy was involved in a fatal shooting Thursday.

Deputies were called to a home on Highway 90 in Robertsdale around 8:30 a.m. Thursday after a neighbor damaged personal property, the sheriff’s office told WPMI.

The sheriff’s office could not be reached by AL.com to confirm the report, and the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency said the state Bureau of Investigation, which usually probes officer-involved shootings, is not handling an incident involving a Baldwin County deputy.

Deputies then tried to talk with the suspect, who became uncooperative and fled to his home, the sheriff’s office told the station.

Deputies reportedly then left the home but remained in the area in part because the suspect had outstanding warrants for stalking, criminal mischief and criminal trespassing.

As the suspect left his home later in the afternoon, deputies tried to arrest him.

But the suspect then took out a knife and charged at a deputy.

The deputy tried to deploy a Taser on the suspect but the suspect continued to lunge at the deputy.

That’s when the deputy shot the suspect, who was pronounced dead at the scene, according to WPMI.

The deputy was not injured in the incident.
