Baldwin County planners to consider request for new football stadium

Students at St. Michael Catholic High School in Fairhope may soon get a new football stadium. And maybe a new baseball diamond, plus a softball field. And a track.

They’d like all of that, but first, the football stadium.

The Baldwin County Planning and Zoning Commission today will review an application from the school to construct the new football stadium on St. Michael Way, formerly known as Dick Higbee Road. The school held a groundbreaking for the stadium in June.

The commission’s staff has recommended that the body approve the stadium, when the commission meets at 4 p.m. in the Baldwin County Central Annex in Robertsdale.

The school has plans for an additional baseball field, softball field and track adjacent to the football stadium, Baldwin County records show, though the school has not yet applied for those facilities. Andrea Williamson, principal of St. Michael, says that there is no timeline on the other elements.
