Baldwin County mayor won’t take extra year; only one in Alabama

Elberta Mayor Jim Hamby will step down from his position in October, despite having one more year in his term. He says he’s the only elected official in the state to do so after a state law in 2021 added an extra year to many elected officials’ terms.

“It’s time for a different chapter for Elberta, and it’s time for a different chapter for Jim Hamby,” the mayor, 66, told AL.com.
