Baldwin County band instructor arrested on child pornography charges
A 30-year-old band instructor with the Baldwin County school district has been charged with four counts of possession of child pornography, the Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office said Monday.
The arrest of Bryant Ramey came as the result of a search warrant executed at his home Monday morning.
Authorities allegedly found images of persons under 17 engaged in obscene acts were found on Ramey’s personal electronic devices, according to investigators.
Investigators noted Ramey’s employment as a band instructor with Baldwin County schools, but said they had no evidence to suggest illegal activity had taken place on school ground.
They added, however, they have been in contact with the Baldwin County Board of Education as the investigation continues.
“The safety and security of our students, teachers and other staff within our schools will remain a top priority,” the sheriff’s office said in a release.
Ramey has worked as a music instructor at Pine Grove Elementary and as a band instructor with Robertsdale High School, although his current role with the school district is unclear.
“Mr. Ramey has been placed on administrative leave as of this morning,” Baldwin County superintendent Eddie Tyler said in a statement. “We are working closely with the Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office and will continue to do so as this investigation progresses. Due to this being a personnel matter, we cannot comment any further at this time and all questions should be directed to the Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office.”
Ramey’s arrest was the result of a joint effort between the Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office, Alabama Law Enforcement Agency ICAC Task Force, and the Department of Homeland Security Mobile Field Office.
As of mid-afternoon Monday, Ramey remained in the Baldwin County Jail under $60,000 bond — $15,000 per count.
