Baby names that are growing in popularity…and those that aren’t

Names come and go in popularity but it appears new parents in 2023 looked to social media for inspiration.

While classics such as Liam and Olivia reign supreme, social media appears to have played a large role in that names grew the most in popularity in the past year, according to the Social Security Administration which tracks names as parents apply for Social Security numbers for their children.

The fastest rising girls name, Kaeli, rose a whopping 1,692 spot from 2022 to 2023, an apparent nod to YouTube and TikTok str Kaeli McEwen, also known as Kaeli Mae, whose channels promote a clean, tidy and neutral-aesthetic lifestyle. On the boy’s side, trending in the third place as the boy’s fastest riser, was Eiden, the surname as TikTok creator Wyatt Eiden who has 1.6 billion views with 3 million followers.

Powerful names were also a trend. Emryn jumped up 1,287 spots to enter the top 1,000 with “ryn” translating to “ruler.” Chozen – a character from the hit Netflix show Cobra Kai – was the second fastest-rising name for baby boys, landing at number 813 in 2023.
