An encounter with a reported vehicle thief ended with a foot pursuit and arrest this morning, according to the Morgan County Sheriff’s Office.

According to the agency, deputies responded to reports of a woman walking on Perkins Wood Road in Somerville saying her vehicle had just been stolen.

Later, deputies located a vehicle matching the description, which failed to stop and, according to the agency, attempted to elude. During the pursuit, the person inside the vehicle shot at deputies.

The vehicle stopped at a residence on Wilson Mountain Road, where the driver attempted to run on foot and was captured.

Authorities have not yet identified the person taken into custody.
