A man found dead in a burning abandoned Birmingham house has now been identified.

The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office on Monday identified the victim as Antonio Lovelle Powell. He was 41.

Birmingham Fire and Rescue Service and Birmingham police responded about 11:30 p.m. Thursday to the house in the 8500 block of Third Avenue North.

Once the flames were extinguished, Powell was found dead inside. He was officially pronounced dead at 11:35 p.m.

BFRS investigators are working to determine the cause and origin of the fire. Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death.
