Auburn’s Johni Broome named third team All-American by Associated Press
Auburn center Johni Broome was named a third team All-American by the Associated Press, in a Tuesday news release.
Broome is Auburn’s third AP All-American since 2022 when Jabari Smith and Walker Kessler were both honored.
Broome led Auburn in scoring this year with 16.2 points per game. He was also named to the All-SEC first team and the SEC Tournament Most Valuable Player after Auburn won the championship Sunday over Florida.
Additionally, Broome was named to the SEC All-Defensive team, the fifth Auburn player ever to receive that award.
The full AP teams are as follows…
First team:
- Zach Edey, Purdue
- Dalton Knecht, Tennessee
- R.J. Davis, North Carolina
- Tristen Newton, UConn
- Jamal Shead, Houston
Second team:
- Tyler Kolek, Marquette
- Mark Sears, Alabama
- DaRon Holmes II, Dayton
- Kyle Filipowski, Duke
- Hunter Dickinson, Kansas
Third team:
- Johni Broome, Auburn
- Jaedon LeDee, San Diego State
- Baylor Scheierman, Creighton
- Caleb Love, Arizona
- Terrance Shannon Jr., Illinois
There are three other AP All-Americans in Auburn’s region of the NCAA Tournament bracket: Newton, LeDee and Shannon. Auburn could face LeDee as early as the second round of the tournament in Spokane.
Auburn is a No. 4 seed in the East Region and will begin March Madness on Friday against No. 13 seed Yale.
Broome transferred to Auburn from Morehead Stated before the 2022-23 season and has been among the best big men in the country since. This honor, the most significant of his college career, cements Broome’s best college season. Broome dramatically improved his three-point shooting and passing this season to go along with already strong rebounding and interior scoring production.
