Auburn’s Johni Broome earns NBA G League Elite camp invite
As Johni Broome tests the NBA Draft waters this offseason, the Auburn big man is taking the next step in the pre-draft process.
Broome earned an invite to the upcoming NBA G League Elite camp, which takes place from May 13-14. He’s one of 47 prospects invited to the two-day event, which serves as a stepping stone for players who don’t receive initial invites to the NBA Draft combine. The top performers from the G League Elite camp move on to the draft combine, which is set to begin May 16. Both events are held in Chicago.

It’s the second consecutive year that an Auburn player is invited to the G League Elite camp. Allen Flanigan participated in last year’s camp but did not advance to the combine. Broome is the only one of Auburn’s early draft entrants to earn an invite to this year’s camp. Point guard Wendell Green Jr., forward Jaylin Williams and center Dylan Cardwell were not invited.
Broome, who transferred to Auburn last season after starting his career at Morehead State, declared for the NBA Draft on April 18 but announced he was retaining his college eligibility, leaving the door open for a return to Auburn for another season. After being named the OVC Defensive Player of the Year a year ago, Broome’s first season in the SEC was a productive one. He earned second-team All-SEC honors while leading Auburn in points (14.2 per game) and rebounds (8.4). He finished the season with 10 double-doubles, including nine in SEC play.
Early entrants have until 11:59 p.m. ET on May 30 to withdraw from the NBA Draft and return to school.
