Auburn’s Elijah McAllister gets high praise from former coach Clark Lea

Though Hugh Freeze and the Auburn Tigers have yet to take center stage at SEC Media Days in Nashville, we’ve already learned a bit about the Tigers’ transfer Jack linebacker Elijah McAllister.

Kicking off Day 2 of action at Nashville’s Grand Hyatt were the hometown Vanderbilt Commodores, who are piloted by second-year head coach and Nashville native, Clark Lea.

In addition to addressing what to expect from the ‘Dores this season, Lea also fielded questions about McAllister, who transferred from Vanderbilt in December.

“Elijah is a first-class person,” Lea said. “He’s got length, plays hard. A guy I think the world of.”

At Vanderbilt, McAllister tallied 65 tackles, 6.5 tackles for a loss and an interception.

Lea went on to say he stays in touch with McAllister, who graduated from Vanderbilt with his masters degree. At Auburn, McAllister is pursuing a Ph.D. from the College of Education.

Later Tuesday, McAllister will appear in front of the media as he joins Freeze, senior tight end Luke Deal and senior offensive lineman Kam Stutts.

“Glad that he’s here, because the college football world needs him to have a platform,” Lea said of McAllister. “I’m proud of him and appreciate him for what he contributed to our program.”
