Auburn’s Bruce Pearl earns additional SEC Coach of the Year honor

The postseason recognition continues to pile up for Bruce Pearl and Auburn men’s basketball.

Pearl was named AP SEC Coach of the Year on Tuesday, a day after his fellow SEC head coaches voted him as coach of the year.

It’s the second time during his time on the Plains that Pearl has earned the nod from the AP and he’s the first Auburn coach to be named AP SEC Coach of the Year twice.

“I am honored, but it’s not something you take for granted,” Pearl said in a release. “We have won five championships in eight seasons and it’s the second time I’ve won coach of the year. It’s not automatic and a great compliment to my coaching staff.”

Auburn will start the postseason Friday in the SEC Tournament quarterfinals. The Tigers will face either Ole Miss, Arkansas or South Carolina at Bridgestone Arena in Nashville. Tipoff is scheduled for noon and the game will be televised on ESPN.
