Auburn softball’s Maddie Penta and Nelia Peralta named to NFCA All-Southeast Region Team

Auburn softball players Maddie Penta and Nelia Peralta were selected to the National Fastpitch Coaches Association’s All-Southeast Region Teams, on Thursday.

Penta and Peralta also made the All-SEC team following a 40-17 season for the Tigers. Auburn begins their quest for a Women’s College World Series berth on Friday against Cal State Fullerton at on the campus of Clemson University.

Penta began the season with 62.1 consecutive innings before allowing her first earned run. She is second in the nation with 287 strikeouts, ninth nationally with a 1.10 earned run average, allowing just 32 earned runs to score in her 203.1 innings pitched.

The SEC Pitcher of the Year posted 48 walks compared to her 287 strikeouts and held opponents to a .150 batting average.

Peralta leads Auburn with a .336 batting average, 38 runs scored, and 50 hits. She had six doubles, two triples, and nine home runs, which included four home runs in the first at-bat of the game. The All-SEC second-teamer also has plate discipline. She has 40 walks and ranks seventh in the SEC as she averages .70 walks per game.

Peralta reached base safely in 53 of Auburn’s 57 games and has a .487 on-base percentage.
