Auburn reserve QB Sawyer Pate to enter the transfer portal
Auburn senior quarterback Sawyer Pate will enter the transfer portal with two remaining years of eligibility, he announced with a post on X, formerly known as Twitter, on Tuesday.
Pate, who played in high school at Thompson in Alabaster, Alabama, has not played during his four years at Auburn.

He was rated as a three-star recruit out of high school and came to Auburn as a walk-on.
He came to Auburn under then-head coach Gus Malzahn and stayed with the Tigers through coaching changes to Bryan Harsin and now Hugh Freeze.
Pate has not been part of Auburn’s quarterback competitions and that would be unlikely to change going into 2024 with Payton Thorne, Holden Geriner, Hank Brown and four-star signee Walker White all vying for snaps.
As of Jan. 2, those are the only four scholarship quarterbacks on Auburn’s roster for next season. Auburn reportedly made an effort to recruit top-ranked transfer quarterback Cam Ward after a disappointing display from Thorne in the Music City Bowl. But Ward decided to enter the 2024 NFL Draft.
Pate is the second Auburn quarterback to enter the transfer portal this cycle, joining former backup quarterback Robby Ashford who put his name in the portal in December.
