Aden Holloway has joined an exclusive club.

The four-star point guard was named a McDonald’s All-American on Tuesday, becoming just the fifth Auburn signee to earn the prestigious national prep honor. Holloway joins Jabari Smith (2021), Sharife Cooper (2020), Kavortney Barber (2005) and Frank Ford (1983) as Auburn signees who were McDonald’s All-Americans.

Walker Kessler (2020) was also a McDonald’s All-American, but he started his career at North Carolina before transferring to Auburn for his sophomore season, when he was named an All-American for the Tigers and earned national Defensive Player of the Year honors. Four of the six Tigers who have been McDonald’s All-Americans have come to the Plains during Bruce Pearl’s tenure as head coach.

Holloway, who signed with Auburn in November, is one of 24 players in the 2023 class to be named to this year’s McDonald’s All-American game, which will take place March 28 in Houston. This year’s roster of All-Americans is headlined by No. 1 overall prospect Isaiah Collier (a USC signee), five-star Kentucky signees DJ Wagner and Justin Edwards, as well as four-star recruit Bronny James, the oldest son of NBA star LeBron James.

Holloway, rated as the No. 27 overall recruit in the 2023 class and the nation’s sixth-rated point guard, currently attends Prolific Prep, one of the nation’s top teams, in Napa, Calif. A native of Charlotte, Holloway began his high school career at Matthews (N.C.) Covenant Day School before transferring to La Lumiere School in La Porte, Ind.

“Auburn has become a place where fast, quick, creative guards have flourished,” Pearl said in November. “Aden is a special winner. He has a high basketball IQ and the unique ability to create for himself and others. People just love playing with him.”

As a sophomore at Covenant Day, the 6-foot-1 guard averaged 21.9 points, 5.3 rebounds, 2.7 assists and 2.3 steals per game. He also for Team CP3 on the EYBL circuit last summer, averaging 16.2 points, 5.0 assists and 3.9 rebounds per game while shooting 41 percent from the field and 35 percent from beyond the arc.
