Auburn NFL roundup: Marlon Davidson gets another sack
On Sept. 19, 2021, Atlanta Falcons defensive tackle Marlon Davidson recorded his first NFL sack when he took down Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Tom Brady.
On Sunday, Davidson got his second NFL sack. Davidson got to quarterback Case Keenum on Houston’s first snap in overtime, but the Texans came back to defeat the Tennessee Titans 19-16 as time ran out in the extra period.
In the more than two-year gap between the sacks, Davidson played in 10 games.
Alabama’s Class 5A Lineman of the Year in 2015 for Greenville High School, Davidson was an All-SEC selection at Auburn before joining Atlanta in the second round of the 2020 NFL Draft.
In two seasons with the Falcons, Davidson played in 19 games, started one and missed 21 as injuries and COVID-19 kept him off the field. He totaled 29 tackles, with one sack, one tackle for loss and one interception returned for a touchdown before Atlanta released him from injured reserve on Oct. 25, 2022.
Davidson returned this year as he went through the offseason program, training camp and preseason with San Francisco before starting the season on the 49ers’ practice squad. San Francisco released Davidson on Oct. 4, and the Titans signed him for their practice squad on Oct. 25 — exactly one year after his release by Atlanta..
With the Tennessee defensive line dealing with an outbreak of injuries, including to Pro Bowler Jeffery Simmons, the Titans have elevated Davidson from the practice squad to make him eligible to play in the past two games.
Davidson had one tackle in Tennessee’s 28-27 victory over the Miami Dolphins on Monday night in his first regular-season appearance since Jan. 9, 2022.
Davidson had two tackles for the Titans on Sunday.
