Auburn NFL roundup: C.J. Uzomah back in the end zone

C.J. Uzomah had his first touchdown reception of the 2023 NFL season in the New York Jets’ 23-20 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday night.

After starting at tight end for New York, Uzomah caught a 1-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Zach Wilson as the Jets cut Kansas City’s lead to 17-12 with 6:26 left in the first half after they fell behind by 17 points in the first quarter.

New York’s rally continued in the second half as the Jets tied the score at 20-20.

After Kansas City took a three-point lead on a fourth-quarter field goal, Wilson lost a fumble with 7:24 left to play, and the Jets never regained possession. The Chiefs were able to run out the clock with the help of a defensive-holding penalty that nullified a New York interception.

Uzomah has 16 touchdown receptions in his career. On Sunday night, he moved past Joe Cribbs and Darius Slayton into sole possession of sixth for NFL touchdown receptions among Auburn alumni.

Red Phillips has the most with 34 touchdown receptions. Between Phillips and Uzomah on the Auburn NFL list are James Brooks with 30, Ed West with 27, Frank Sanders with 24 and Dave Middleton with 17.
