Auburn men’s basketball remains No. 2 in AP Poll following first week of SEC play
For the fifth week in a row, Auburn men’s basketball remains No. 2 in the AP Top 25, trailing only Southeastern Conference foe Tennessee.
The Tigers picked up 15 first place votes this week, compared to Tennessee’s 45.
Both teams scored comfortable wins to start SEC play as Auburn took down Missouri 84-68 and Tennessee handled Arkansas 76-52. The Tigers and Volunteers will meet on Jan. 25.
Seven other SEC teams were featured in this week’s poll, those being Alabama, Kentucky, Florida, Texas A&M, Mississippi State, Oklahoma and Ole Miss. No conference has more ranked teams than the SEC in this week’s poll.
In addition to the nine that are ranked, Arkansas, Georgia, Missouri and Vanderbilt received votes, but didn’t quite crack the rankings.
Auburn will continue SEC play this week with road games against Texas and South Carolina. The Tigers’ Tuesday night matchup with the Longhorns is scheduled for 8 p.m. and will be streaming live on ESPN2.
