Auburn men’s basketball remains No. 1 after wins over Mississippi State, Georgia

Auburn men’s basketball sits atop the AP top 25 for a second straight week.

It comes after ranked wins over Mississippi State and Georgia, both without All-American center Johni Broome.

Behind Auburn, Duke moved up to No. 2 in the AP poll after Iowa State’s loss to West Virginia moved the Hawkeyes down from second to third. Duke is Auburn’s only loss so far this season.

Alabama is the next highest ranked Southeastern Conference team at No. 4, putting two schools from the state of Alabama inside the top five. The Tigers and Crimson Tide will play each other for the first time on Feb. 15.

Nine SEC teams were ranked in this week’s AP top 25, including five in the top 10. Auburn’s next game comes against one of those teams, facing No. 6 Tennessee on Saturday.

The Vols held the No. 1 spot for five weeks before falling in Week 11 after a 30-point loss to Florida. Tennessee kept its place in this week’s poll after a win over Georgia and a road loss to Vanderbilt.

The matchup between Auburn and Tennessee is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Saturday and will be streaming live on ESPN. ESPN’s College GameDay will also be live from Neville Arena Saturday morning, running from 10-11 a.m.
