Auburn menâs basketball receives votes in 2023 AP preseason poll
Auburn men’s basketball is unranked but received 27 voting points in the preseason AP poll, which is effectively tied for 31st with Virginia.
It is the first time Auburn has not been ranked in the preseason poll since 2020.
Kansas begins the year ranked as the No. 1 team. Tennessee is the highest-ranked SEC team and the only SEC team in the top 10.
Eight voters included Auburn in their ballot, led by Stefan Krajisnik of the Clarion Ledger who slotted Auburn at 20. Other voters, including AL.com’s Nick Alvarez, had Auburn ranked between No. 21 and No. 24.
Seven teams on Auburn’s 2023-24 schedule are ranked in the reason poll, including five SEC opponents. Those teams are No. 9 Tennessee, No. 14 Arkansas, No. 15 Texas A&M, No. 16 Kentucky, No. 20 Baylor, No. 21 USC and No. 24 Alabama.
Four other teams on Auburn’s schedule — Mississippi State, Missouri, Indiana and Florida — also received votes in the poll.
Auburn is the sixth-ranked SEC team based on voting points.
Computer rankings were more favorable to Auburn than the AP voters. The KenPom rankings have Auburn ranked 15th to begin the season.
SEC basketball media day is this Wednesday in Mountain Brook, Alabama. The season for Auburn begins on Nov. 7 against Baylor in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
