Auburn menâs basketball enters top 10 of AP poll following 11-game win streak
Auburn moved up five spots to be ranked No. 8 in the Jan. 22 edition of the Associated Press top 25 poll.
The Tigers have won 11 straight games and are 16-2 overall and 5-0 in the SEC. Auburn is alone in first place early into SEC play. Auburn was previously ranked No. 13.
Several teams in the poll ahead of Auburn lost this week. No. 3 Kansas, No. 7 Duke, No 9 Baylor, No. 10 Memphis and No. 11 Wisconsin all lost at least once.
This is the first time Auburn has been ranked in the top 10 since the final poll of the 2021-22 season.
Auburn has spent 23 total weeks ranked in the top 10 during head coach Bruce Pearl’s tenure which began in 2014. All 23 of those weeks have come since February 2018.
Auburn has only spent 46 other weeks ranked over the entire rest of the program’s history. Auburn began playing basketball in 1905.
Though while Auburn has not been ranked often over the history of the program, when it is ranked, it is good. This is Auburn’s 170th all-time week being ranked and in 41% of those polls, Auburn has been ranked in the top 10.
Auburn has arguably its toughest week of the season to date coming up, with a trip to face Alabama in Tuscaloosa on Wednesday immediately followed by a Saturday afternoon game at Mississippi State. Auburn will travel directly from Tuscaloosa to Starkville without coming back to Auburn.
