Auburn lands commitment from Eric Winters, 4-star Enterprise safety

Auburn received a commitment from four-star Enterprise safety Eric Winters on Saturday, according to a report by On3.

Winters took an official visit to Auburn on June 14, according to 247Sports. He committed the next day. He is now the 15th member of Auburn’s 2025 recruiting class, now firmly ranked in the top 10 nationally and approaching the top five.

He also played quarterback for Enterprise and was part of the Enterprise basketball team that went to the 7A state title game.

Winters also took official visits to Georgia and Miami over the last month.

In the 247Sports composite ranking, Winters is rated as the 65th overall player in the nation and the seventh-best safety. He is a top-five ranked in the state of Alabama. He will be a top three best-rated member of Auburn’s recruiting class as it stands now.

Auburn has faced significant turnover in its secondary after four starters left for the NFL including starting safeties Jaylin Simpson and Zion Puckett. Auburn brought in an experienced transfer safety in Jerrin Thompson from Texas, but doesn’t have much depth at the position for the long-term future.

Auburn previously had the commitment of four-star safety Kendarius Riddick, now rated just outside the top 100 players nationally. Riddick de-committed from Auburn in February and flipped to UCF, which now employs former Auburn staffer Trovon Reed as its cornerbacks coach and all under the umbrella of former Auburn head coach Gus Malzahn who now coaches the Golden Knights.
