Auburn lands commitment from 5-star Thompson edge rusher Jared Smith

The results of Auburn football’s Big Cat Weekend continue to show a week later.

The latest recruiting win came Saturday, when five-star edge rusher Jared Smith committed to Auburn.

The decision came at a ceremony in Birmingham Saturday evening where Smith chose Auburn over other finalists, Georgia, Ole Miss, USC, Florida State and South Carolina, opting to stay in state.

It’s the second high-profile player of the week from Thompson High School to commit to Auburn, following four-star safety Anquon Fegans.

Fegans teased a possible commitment from Smith during his ceremony on Monday.

“Jared Smith, I’m coming,” Fegans said. “You my teammate at home and I want you to be my teammate in college.”

Smith is ranked as a five-star prospect, the second-best player in Alabama and the second-best edge rusher in the country by 247Sports.

A two-sport athlete, Smith also plays basketball for Thompson.

Auburn defensive edge coach Josh Aldridge was the primary recruiter for the 6-foot-6, 235-pound EDGE.

Smith started his high school career at Spain Park High School but withdrew and enrolled at Thompson in October 2023.

He becomes the fifth defensive line commit and 22nd overall of Auburn’s 2025 class, joining other top-100 prospects Malik Autry, Jakaleb Faulk, Jourdin Crawford and Antonio Coleman.

Auburn’s 2025 class currently ranks No. 5 in the country, according to 247Sports.
