Auburn kicker Anders Carlson picked in 6th round of 2023 NFL Draft by Green Bay
Auburn kicker Anders Carlson got drafted No. 207 Saturday by the Green Bay Packers in the sixth round of the 2023 NFL Draft.
Carlson is the fifth Tiger to get picked in the draft. Colby Wooden went 116th overall to the Packers. Derick Hall was 37th to Seattle, Tank Bigbsy went 88th to Jacksonville, and Arizona picked Owen Pappoe with the 168th pick in the fifth round.
A positive sign for Carlson could be that the Packers hadn’t used a draft pick on a kicker since 2007 when the team picked Mason Crosby, a free agent after spending 16 seasons with the team. Carlson went 79-of-110 field goals (71.8%) and 173-of-176 extra points (98.3%) over five seasons on the Plains.
Carlson was 20-of-22 on field goals, including 2-of-3 from 50-plus yards during the 2020 season while making the all-Southeastern Conference second-team. His 2021 campaign ended early when he got injured in the loss against Mississippi State at Jordan-Hare. He returned in 2022 and was 12-of-17 on field goals before a season-ending shoulder injury cut his college career short by three games.
Carlson’s older brother Daniel Carlson was drafted by the Minnesota Vikings in the fifth round of the 2018 Draft out of Auburn, and the elder brother kicks for the Las Vegas Raiders.
