Auburn injury report: Scott, Stutts, Kaufman pick up injuries in win over Cal

A handful of Auburn players picked up injuries in the 14-10 win over Cal on Saturday night including defensive backs Donovan Kaufman and Keionte Scott as well as offensive lineman Kam Stutts and linebacker Larry Nixon III, head coach Hugh Freeze said.

Kaufman had a second straight very strong game for Auburn creating plays in the backfield, but took a hard hit in the second half which he wasn’t able to return from.

Freeze said Kaufman was being evaluated for a concussion, but did not know the results of it.

Scott did not play in the second half due to cramps, Freeze said. Scott is both a starting cornerback and Auburn’s punt returner. Cal only punted once in the second half, and Ja’Varrius Johnson caught the kick for a fair catch.

Stutts picked up a leg injury, according to Freeze. He wasn’t sure if it was a calf or ankle injury.

Freeze did not say what type of injury Nixon picked up, but it does leave Auburn even thinner at linebacker after Austin Keys’ thumb surgery earlier this week.

Jack linebacker Jalen McLeod played for Auburn after not seeing the field in Week 1. But he was clearly not feeling 100% with his ankle injury. He spent time on the stationary sideline bike, but kept working his way into the game.

Nehemiah Pritchett warmed up for Auburn in pads but did not dress for the game when Auburn took the field before kickoff. It was his second straight missed game.

Wide receiver Nick Mardner and cornerback J.D. Rhym did not play either for a second straight week.
