Auburn guard goes 18th, Stallions get offensive in UFL Draft
The eight United Football League teams made only pick one from an Alabama college among the 80 selections in the spring-football circuit’s college draft on Wednesday.
The Houston Roughnecks chose Auburn guard Kam Stutts at No. 18, which was the second selection in the third round.
A three-year starter at guard for the Tigers, Stutts was a two-time All-State selection for Brooks High School in Killen.
The Memphis Showboats started the draft by picking Kansas quarterback Jason Bean.
The Roughnecks chose Charlotte defensive end Eyabi Okie at No. 2. As Eyabi Anoma, the second selection made the SEC All-Freshman team as an Alabama linebacker in 2018. After being dismissed from the Crimson Tide program, Okie spent a redshirt year at Houston and played at UT Martin in 2021, Michigan in 2022 and Charlotte in 2023.
As the 2023 league champion, Birmingham had the final pick in each round, and the Stallions concentrated on their offense. Birmingham picked four offensive tackles, starting with Wyoming’s Frank Crum in the first round, two wide receivers, one quarterback, one running back and one tight end.
The Stallions’ defensive selection was Arkansas defensive end Trajan Jeffcoat in the sixth round.
To be considered for the UFL Draft on Wednesday, prospects had to be eligible for the NFL Draft on April 25-27. Although they went undrafted in April, many of the players picked on Wednesday signed with NFL teams as rookie free agents in May.
All 10 of the players picked by Birmingham are on NFL rosters with training camps opening this week. Top-choice Crum is with the Denver Broncos, and the Stallions’ quarterback choice, Notre Dame’s Sam Hartman in the ninth round, is with the Washington Commanders.
