Auburn earns commitment of Dylan Gentry, 3-star WR and teammate of 5-star Cam Coleman

Auburn head coach Hugh Freeze is putting up a fence around his backyard.

On Sunday afternoon, Freeze and the Tigers earned the commitment of another hometown kid as Dylan Gentry, a 3-star wide receiver out of Central-Phenix City announced his commitment to Auburn on the social platform X, formerly known as Twitter.

Gentry, whose announcement comes just four days after he helped Central-Phenix City win the AHSAA 7A state championship, is the teammate of Auburn’s 5-star wide receiver commit Cam Coleman, who flipped his commitment from Texas A&M on Dec. 1.

During his senior campaign with Central-Phenix City, Gentry tallied 29 receptions for 540 yards and seven touchdowns. Against Thompson in Wednesday’s championship, Gentry hauled in a pair of catches for 36 yards.

Sunday’s announcement comes after Freeze and the Tigers extended a preferred walk-on offer to Gentry on Nov. 28.

According to On3 Sports’ Jeffrey Lee, Gentry is on pace to graduate in December, paving the way for him to enroll at Auburn as early as January.
